2008 World Cup Semis Prague  Sunday, June 22, 2008

The kiwi duo of James Dawson (C1) and Luuka Jones (K1) will have to wait another week before they know whether they will be in the NZ Olympic team.

Perhaps it was nerves, the tough semi final course or just simply the competition was so strong, but both James and Luuka didn't do enough to secure their top 16 nation placing. James was up first and although he recovered after an error on gate 3 to produce some great paddling in the middle part of the course, he spun too early in gate 12 getting a bit tangled with the gate, losing time. He finished in 38th.

Luuka didn't get off to a good start, dropping too low in gate 3 and seemed to struggle with her lines, catching an edge in gate 10 and was pushed into the wall, losing valuable time. Fighting hard to gain control again an error at the bottom of the course meant for the time being her Olympic chance had slipped away, finishing 39th.

They will now be packing up and heading to Tacen, World Cup Race 2, where they will need to be on top form for their final opportunity to meet the NZOC selection criteria.

The other kiwi, Louise Jull  finished her first world cup in a credible 38th with a time of  120.19 +8 seconds.
